Early Childhood at Chicago Waldorf School (Ages 3–6)

Early childhood is a time for wonder, discovery, and learning through experience. At Chicago Waldorf School, our Early Childhood program gives children the time and space to explore the world around them through imaginative play, storytelling, creative work, movement, and meaningful relationships.

A consistent daily rhythm provides a sense of security and belonging, while hands-on activities such as baking bread, painting, gardening, and seasonal projects nurture curiosity, independence, and physical confidence. In our screen-free environment, children develop social awareness, strengthen language skills, and build the foundations for early literacy, mathematical thinking, and problem-solving through purposeful play and everyday experiences.

Our developmentally responsive approach honors the way young children learn best: by doing, imagining, observing, and engaging with the world around them. As they learn to collaborate, navigate challenges, and care for their community, they build the confidence and capabilities that will support them in the years ahead.

By the time children enter first grade, they have developed a strong foundation for academic learning, social connection, and a lifelong relationship with learning.
